The centenary of the Royal Air Force marked far more than a milestone anniversary; it celebrated a century of courage, innovation and global influence. Since its formation in 1918, the RAF has played a defining role in shaping modern air power while supporting humanitarian missions, protecting the nation and serving communities around the world. RAF100 offered an opportunity not only to honour remarkable achievements and sacrifices, but also to inspire future generations through stories of resilience, service and international collaboration that continue to define the RAF today.
Born from the spirit of the RAF100 celebrations, publisher St James's House partnered with the RAF to create Cooking with Heroes, an ambitious and beautifully produced cookbook that blends culinary discovery with living history. Designed as an official RAF100 publication, the hardback volume journeys through 100 countries connected to the RAF’s global presence, pairing compelling stories with authentic recipes inspired by each location. Developed with serving personnel, veterans and RAF supporters, the project captures the warmth, camaraderie and shared heritage of the RAF family, while supporting the charities championed by the RAF100 Appeal.
Rich in personality and detail, Cooking with Heroes brings together recipes researched, prepared and written by servicemen and servicewomen alongside contributions from celebrated chefs including James Martin, Tom Kerridge and Cyrus Todiwala. Every dish was created to be achievable in a home kitchen while reflecting the culture and flavours of the country it represents. Stunning food photography elevates the book into a visual celebration of cuisine, storytelling and service, making it as captivating to browse as it is to cook from.
