Since it was established through the London Declaration in 1949, the modern Commonwealth has fostered dialogue, co-operation and shared progress across a richly diverse network of nations. From Australia to Antigua, Cameroon to Canada, the organisation champions international unity, educational exchange and meaningful commercial partnerships around the world. To mark its milestone 75th anniversary, this multi-platform campaign was launched, spanning print, film and digital, celebrating the Commonwealth’s enduring legacy of leadership, collaboration and collective endeavour.
At the heart of the initiative was The Commonwealth at 75, a fully illustrated publication produced by St James’s House in partnership with the History of Parliament Trust. Researched and written by a distinguished team of academics and award-winning authors, the book explores the origins, evolution and global impact of the Commonwealth from its founding to the present day. Featuring contributions from leading institutions and Commonwealth-accredited organisations, including the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, the project brought together expert voices from across the globe in a powerful reflection of the Commonwealth’s collaborative spirit.
The publication examines the development of parliamentary democracy throughout the Commonwealth, highlighting stories of social, cultural, technological and political progress while acknowledging the complexity and diversity of its shared history. Marking the appointment of King Charles III as Head of the Commonwealth, the book also looks ahead to the opportunities and challenges facing the organisation in the future. Its official launch, held in the historic Cloisters of Westminster Abbey, welcomed more than 500 distinguished guests for an afternoon of speeches, music and celebration, underscoring the significance of this landmark anniversary.
