VE Day 75

VE Day 75 presents the stories of Victory in Europe Day celebrations throughout the UK and around the world. Recounting the events of that extraordinary day and reflecting on its impact, right up to the present day, this fully illustrated, hardback publication also includes an extensive photographic record of the day. The result is an in-depth and visually striking record of one of the most significant days in modern history.

On 8 May 1945, the news of Germany’s unconditional surrender heralded the end of the war in Europe and with it scenes of celebration across the UK and around the world. People took to the streets in their thousands to mark Victory in Europe Day, or VE Day. Seventy five years on, and the nation will once again celebrate the declaration of peace across Europe, while commemorating those who gave so much to achieve that hard-fought victory.

Recounting the events of that extraordinary day and reflecting on its impact – an impact that still resonates to this day – VE Day 75 presents the stories, large and small, of the celebrations in cities, towns and villages throughout the UK, as well as those in Europe, North America and the Commonwealth.

The book is a fully illustrated, hardback publication and including an extensive photographic record of the day, as well as original eyewitness accounts. It reflects on the UK’s social, industrial and cultural make-up, subsequent VE Day anniversaries and the best of British across a host of spheres.

VE Day 75 has been produced to accompany the official VE Day 75th anniversary celebrations, which will raise funds for SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity. The focal point of these celebrations will be a high-profile concert at the Royal Albert Hall, which will also be screened live at more than 600 cinemas around the UK.
