ROYAL & GOVERNMENT
As an events and communications company, St James’s House has a long history of working with representatives of government and the Royal Family on major national celebrations and communications initiatives.
This year, St James’s House published the commemorative album and programme for the 100 years of the RAF celebration that took place in July in London. The commemorative album, produced in RAF colours: blue, white and red, provides an inspiring and insightful record of the RAF’s past and present, as well as a vision of the force’s future.
Tuesday, 10 July was an historic day for the Royal Air Force as tens of thousands of spectators filled the Royal Parks and the Mall as 100 RAF aircraft from the past century came together in a flypast over Buckingham Palace. This was the first time since the Second World War victory celebrations of 1946 that such a vast number of aircraft have gathered over London, and the event, which was broadcast live on the BBC, was without doubt the highlight of the RAF100 celebrations.
We partnered with the History of Parliament Trust to produce the official commemorative album for the Vote 100 celebration. The representation of the People Act 1918 marked a crucial milestone in the struggle of women in the UK for the right to vote. The act enabled a majority of women over 30 years old to vote in parliamentary elections. The elegantly designed hardback book, which accompanied a major exhibition in Westminster Hall, spans 368 pages and tells the story of women’s involvement in politics and in Parliament, and of their struggle for equal representation.
In 2018 we also published a beautifully presented, high-end coffee table book to mark the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. The book features the full story of the royal marriage, including the couple’s early years, the tale of their engagement and the inspiration behind Meghan’s custom-designed ring. The book also features photography from throughout the couple’s lives and acts as a timeless commemoration of the milestone celebration.
In 2016, we were appointed to produce the official commemorative album for The Queen’s 90th Birthday Celebration – the only publication sanctioned and endorsed by the organisers. The birthday celebrations took part in Home Park, Windsor Castle, and paid tribute to The Queen’s life, her dedication to the Commonwealth and international affairs, her involvement with the armed forces and her love of horses. The 90-minute show featured a host of well-known actors, singers and performers from the entertainment world and was broadcast live on ITV.
As the official publisher for The Queen’s 90th Birthday Celebration, we were entrusted with telling Her Majesty’s story in an accessible and engaging manner. Illustrated with archive photographs of The Queen in both formal and informal contexts, the book celebrate her life and reign, and highlighted important national and international developments during her lifetime.
